The Perseid Meteor Shower should be visible over Texas tonight. The best time to try and see it will be between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m.

According to Space.com, the bright Perseids are perhaps the most popular meteor shower of the year. However, there is a  chance it won't be so visible if the last-quarter moon is especially bright.

The best time to view the meteors will be the pre-dawn hours of August 12, according to NASA.

A bright moon last year made it harder for spectators to get a good look at the Perseid.

The meteors can be seen best in the pre-dawn hours between Aug. 11th and 13th, with the peak happening the morning of August 12th.  That's when the most meteors are expected to happen according to NASA.

KTRK-TV has a few tips on how you and I can maximize our chances of seeing this beautiful nighttime display. They recommend getting away from areas with high light pollution, so if you can get out to the country or some place pretty dark, you're in good shape. Avoid looking at your phone or other electronics and light sources, and try to keep the moon out of your line of sight if you can. Your eyes will need time to adjust properly to the darkness and stay adjusted.

According to EarthSky.org, if you can find a decent place to watch, you could see anywhere from 40 to 50 meteors per hour at the shower's peak. EarthSky has a ton of awesome information about the meteor shower, including its origins.

I'm super excited about this and I'm going to do my best to get up early and check out this awesome event. Will you be watching the Perseids?
