Petition Asks Whataburger to Stop Using Styrofoam Cups
KXAN is reporting a group of environmentalists is gunning for your jumbo styrofoam cup at Whataburger.
They have dropped off a petition with some 50,000 signatures to Whataburger's headquarters asking the company to stop using the only type of cup that will keep your drinks ice cold all day long. They say the styrofoam harms animals and habitats. Never mind the crazy election news or issues at the border, let's get back on the styrofoam. While I say that all in good fun I remember back in the day you know you found a good burger or hotdog stand when you saw them serving food and drinks in styrofoam. It was always a winner! Well, those days seem to be behind us.
The petition is being delivered to Whataburger headquarters in San Antonio as well as restaurants in Corpus Christi, and Austin, Texas. The group, Environment Texas, says styrofoam cups get eaten by animals and block their digestive tracts and cause them to starve.
Whataburger's response was sent from their corporate office and said,
At Whataburger, we’re always looking for the best way to serve our customers and we value their feedback. We continue to look at cup alternatives that keep drinks at the right temperature but we have a lot to consider from a quality and supply perspective when meeting our customers’ expectations. We will share any updates if we have news to share. In the meantime, we continue to urge customers to properly dispose of our cups.
