Record Breaking Hammerhead Shark Caught in Texas
KTRK reports that fisherman Tim McClellan caught a 1,033-pound hammerhead shark in Texas City Sunday morning. The shark took just over two hours to reel in, and broke a 37-year-old record.
The previous record holder was Mark Johnson who caught a 871 pound hammerhead back in 1980. McLellan beat Johnson's record by 162 pounds.
McLellan wasn't the only fisherman to reel in a big catch during last weeks tournament. Sergio Roque brought in a 946 pound hammerhead in about 3 hours time.
The Tackle Time Fishing Tournament has been an annual event for 55 years.
