With the use of CBD oil on the rise in Central Texas, many are asking if the Cannabidiol substance is legal.

CBD is a non-intoxicating substance that comes from the cannabis plant. The THC levels in CBD oil are at trace levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol. Many states have laws banning products that contain too much THC (the chemical that gets users 'high').

KWTX spoke to Sgt. Patrick Swanton with the Waco Police Department who explains the legality of CBD oil. He said, “According to federal guidelines if it is under 0.3 percent of THC then it is not a marijuana product. It is a hemp product. Federal guidelines say that is legal, obviously since Trump signed the new Farm Bill."

So there is your answer. Yes, it is legal as long as the oil is under 0.3 percent of THC. So what are the benefits of CBD oil? Well, people use it for pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, loss of appetite, neuropathy and more. Some people find they feel better not taking prescription medications and prefer the benefits of the oil.

More and more states (especially the near-bankrupt ones) are relaxing their laws as it pertains to cannabis, and it is likely that the use of CBD will continue to grow. Just make sure you know where to buy it and what is legal.

New shops and cannabis growers are showing up all over the country. Be sure you check the white label to make sure the product contains no more than 0.3 percent THC. You can find all kinds of products with CBD these days. Everything from face cream and toothpaste to a variety of dog treats. It's all good, man.
