Sad and Heartbreaking Video Shows Dog Being Abandoned On Side of Road
You may want to hug your fur babies close after reading this story.
According to a report from the El Paso Times, a witness watched as a Siberian Husky was unloaded from an SUV and abandoned on the side of a road.
The worst part? The Husky can be seen running after its owners as they drive away, looking both confused and afraid.
As a dog mom, my heart immediately crumbled thinking about the pain and heartbreak this dog experienced in that moment. When you adopt an animal, you are responsible for their safety and well-being. To just leave an animal on the side of the road is simply cruel and inhumane.
The witness, a member of a Pawsitive Rescuers of El Paso, reported the case to the El Paso County's Sheriff office, who worked to find those responsible for this reprehensible act.
“These crimes against our voiceless animal victims are taken seriously and we actively seek to hold suspects accountable for these cruel acts,” sheriff’s officials said in a news release.
The witness was able to rescue the dog and take them to the non-profit animal rescue organization Huckleberry Hound Dog Rescue of El Paso. The devastating video of the dog's abandonment went viral, and thankfully within 24 hours the Husky was adopted into a loving family. As it turns out, the Husky is still just a pup, and the shelter believes they're approximately 10 months old. The new family has named the pup Nanook.
Luis Antonio Campos, 68, is believed to be one of the people responsible for the dog's abandonment and was arrested on Friday on charges of animal cruelty. Campos was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $5,000 bond, but bonded out the same day. The El Paso County's Sheriff's office is still investigating the case, and hopefully all involved with the dog's abandonment are brought to justice.
