The residents of Salado held a candlelight vigil last night as they gathered to pray for 17-year-old Ryan White who is in the hospital being treated for major head injuries.

Ryan fell from the trunk of a moving vehicle on Sunday afternoon and was transported to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple. He is in critical condition and his family says his best chance at recovery is to survive the upcoming operation.

White's family told KCENTV how touched they were to see so many people give up their free time in the middle of the week to come to pray for one of their neighbors, or perhaps someone they didn't even know.

Ryan's upcoming surgery will include the need to remove part of his skull as for his brain as swelling occurs. Doctors will have to leave his skull that way for 3 to 6 months during recovery. Family members say they continued to turn to faith as they pray for their son. The Department of Public Safety is looking into the cause of the accident.
