Austin police have released images of a person of interest in the September 17 murder of an Air Force veteran on 6th Street in Austin.

KVUE reports that Marques W. Johnson and his wife were walking in the 200 block of 6th near Barcelona bar around 2 AM Sunday when Johnson exchanged words with two men.

After the exchange, Johnson turned and walked away, after which the men followed him and threw something at him. When Johnson stopped and faced the men, one of them punched him in the face, causing him to fall. The two men then fled.

According to KVUE, Johnson was hospitalized in critical condition before passing away Monday. Doctors believe he suffered fatal blunt force trauma upon hitting the ground.

Authorities are now searching for a black male around 25 years of age standing 5'10" to 6' tall with short, curly hair, light-colored eyes, and a beard.

Police say the man is visible in the surveillance footage below.
