South Texas Police Chief Suspended After Bong Photo
Rio Hondo Police Chief Nick Garza was placed on paid administrative leave after a photo showing him holding a glass bong was found in circulation. Garza's attorney says the object simply contained alcohol. The photo was reportedly taken on 4th of July weekend but only recently was sent to local media outlets by an anonymous source who question if Garza is fit for office.
Garza was placed on leave the same day that Rio Hondo ISD saw the photograph. His attorney has not said if Garza has passed a drug test since the photograph was taken. John Shergold, who represents Garza says the photo sent out clearly shows no illegal activity taking place.
Rio Hondo ISD says they will conduct their own investigation into the matter. Garza says the ISD suspended him without asking for his side of the story.
