Steve Martin and Edie Brickell Join Up for New Album

Steve Martin has teamed with folk-rock singer-songwriter Edie Brickell for a new album. 'Love Will Come For You' is slated for release on April 23, followed by a tour.

The actor and comedian has always been interested in the banjo, incorporating the instrument into his standup comedy act in the '70s and playing on a Grammy-winning 2001 remake of the Earl Scruggs classic 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown.' Martin has since released two albums that feature his banjo playing, appeared at Carnegie Hall and on the Grand Ole Opry, and toured with the Steep Canyon Rangers.

Brickell is best known as the lead singer and songwriter for Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, who scored a multi-platinum debut album in 1988 and the hit single 'What I Am.' Married to Paul Simon since 1992, she has subsequently explored a variety of musical styles on solo albums and film soundtracks.

Brickell says the new collaboration speaks to her on a personal level. "I fell in love with the banjo tunes because at first listen they evoked images and stories that were true to me," she states in a press release.

"The banjo can be so evocative when it's used sparingly, and that was in the back of my mind as we were writing," Martin added. "It's the way I've longed to play and hear the banjo, rather than it being present at every moment. In these songs, the point is to tell the story and get out."

Produced by Peter Asher, the album includes song titles like 'When You Get to Asheville,' 'Sarah Jane and the Iron Mountain Baby,' 'Remember Me This Way' and 'Fighter,' as well as guest appearances by Esperanza Spalding and Sara and Sean Watkins. Dates for a tour in support of the record have yet to be announced.
