Temple Police Accused Of Using Excessive Force

Elsa Martinez of Temple has accused Temple police officers of using excessive force during the arrest of her 15-year-old son.

The woman alleges that officers injured her son during his May 18 arrest on suspicion of shoplifting. Martinez filed the complaint on May 22 and accuses officers of fracturing her son’s clavicle.

In response to the complaint, Temple Police Chief Gary Smith has requested that Texas Rangers be involved in the investigation. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave with pay in order to ensure their availability during the investigation.
