The following press release was issued by the City of Temple on Sunday, November 24:

The Temple Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is activating the Emergency Warming Center Plan starting today to provide a temporary warming space for homeless or distressed persons in the city. This decision is based on data from the National Weather Service on predicted sustained nighttime temperatures below freezing for the next three nights.

Warming Center locations are:
· Victory Ministries, 305 South 18th Street (men)

Resources are available to provide a warming location for women and children should the need arise. The warming center will be open Sunday, November 24th through Thursday, November 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Warming centers are possible due to the efforts of the City of Temple Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the not-for-profit Temple Emergency Warming Center Coalition (TEWCC), and the 2-1-1 System.

According to Interim Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Ron Snider, “The intent of providing warming centers in Temple is to bring people that would normally be out in the elements on an extremely cold evening indoors during the coldest hours of the night. Guests will be provided a warm area for refuge, water, blankets, toilet facilities, and limited hygiene items.”

Once activated, information on warming centers is available by contacting 211.
