Is Tesla a Texas company? Or is it a California company? And where are the headquarters of Tesla?

On Wednesday, Elon Musk traveled to California to announce, along with California Governor Gavin Newsom, that the new Engineering Headquarters for Tesla would be opening in California's Silicon Valley in a building that was HP's headquarters.

So what does that mean for Texas and Austin, which just a could of years ago was announced as the corporate headquarters for Tesla? Not much really. According to KXAN, Elon Musk considers Tesla a "dual-headquartered company".

“This was HP’s original headquarters, and so I think it’s a poetic transition from the founders of Silicon Valley to Tesla and we’re very excited to make this our global engineering headquarters,” Musk told CNBC. “And we’re a California-Texas company.”

Furthermore, Musk said the new facility is “effectively a headquarters of Tesla” and it’s “kind of a dual-headquartered company,” CNBC said.

KXAN reported that Tesla still plans to spend $717 million on 1.4 million additional square feet of space at the Austin gigafactory. They will also hire more workers and continue to expand.

The truth of the matter is, Tesla never fully pulled out of California and Musk has business interest in both California and Texas.
