Population estimates over the past year released by the Census Bureau revealed that eight of the fifteen fastest growing large cities in the nation are located in Texas. Additionally, Texas was home to half of the top ten cities in terms of numeric population increase.

San Marcos experienced a growth rate of 4.9 percent, making it the number one fastest growing large city in the nation. Midland and Cedar Park were also included in the top five. Texas was the only state with more than one city on the list.

Five Texas cities made the list of cities with the largest numeric growth. The cities were Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, and Fort Worth. With a gain of more than 34,500 people, Houston was number two on the list, behind only New York.

The state as a whole experienced a growth of 1.7 percent, adding 425,000 people and pushing the population to over 26 million.
