A 12-year-old Texas girl is being called a hero after rescuing her cousin from a drowning incident in Spring, Texas last month.

KHOU.com reports that Rylee Perry was able to save her cousin Cali Christopher when she found her motionless at the bottom of her backyard pool. Rylee was able to bring Cali up out of the water and call for her mother who then called 9-1-1.

This story reminds me so much of the same thing happening to me when I was a kid. I was 8 or 9 and fell out of a raft at a friends pool. I sank to the bottom and the next thing I knew, my friend's parents stood over me as I coughed up half the pool water I swallowed before figuring out what happened. I stayed away from a pool until I was probably 15 or so. It's a very scary thing. I'm so glad both these kids are ok.

Both girl's parents say they are each good swimmers but this stands as a great reminder for all Texans to make sure kids are supervised when swimming in a pool, lake, or river in the hot summer months.
