The state of Texas has just issued its first medical marijuana license.

KPRC is reporting that Consortium Texas received a license on Friday, and will be allowed to grow, process, and sell medical marijuana to patients with a rare form of epilepsy.

The state department of public safety is also considering applications from Compassionate Cultivation and Surterra Texas.

The licenses are a result of the compassionate use act signed into law by Governor Abbott in 2015. These companies are among 40 applicants. Consortium Texas will face strict regulations moving forward on how they produce and distribute their products.
