Marine Pilot from Texas Set to Fly Osprey During Superbowl
I have quite a few things to look forward to during the Super Bowl this year. I love the commercials, and it's probably the one time of the year that I pay attention to the ad breaks more than what I'm actually tuned into on the television. I made a friendly wager with my co-host Noah, that if the Eagles win the Super Bowl, he has to wear a dress into the station on Monday. The biggest event that I'll be anticipating will be the flyover during the Super Bowl.
I served in the Marine Corps from 1998-2003, and while I was in the Marine Corps I worked on the CH-46E helicopter. The Marine Corps started to transition from the CH-46E to the V-22 Osprey around the same time that I was getting out.
The V-22 Osprey is a Vertical or Short Take Off and Landing (VSTOL) aircraft. I worked on the Osprey for three years after I left the Marine Corps, and despite its troubled past during the testing phase, the airplane/helicopter hybrid is one of the coolest aircraft in the US Military's arsenal.
Texas native and Marine Corps Major, Justin Pitcock, will be one of the pilots flying a V-22 over the Superdome in New Orleans. Major Pitcock, originally from Nacogdoches, Texas, has served in the Marine Corps for 18 years, and during his time in the Marine Corps he served in Afghanistan.
I can't wait for the planes to fly over so that I can point them out to my 4-year-old daughter that her daddy used to work on those airplanes, and that I was in the Marine Corps too. It might not last forever, but for now, those are the types of things that make little girls think that their daddies are cool.
