An investigation is underway after authorities in Harris County, Texas discovered three children who appeared to have been abandoned for an extended period of time.

According to a press release from the Harris County Sheriff's Office,  on October 24, 2021, at approximately 3:15 PM, police received a 911 call from a 15-year-old boy who stated that his 9-year-old brother had been dead for a year, and that his body was in the room next to his.

Fending For Themselves

The 15-year-old boy also told authorities on the phone that his parents had not lived in the apartment with him and his two siblings for several months.

Found At The Apartment

Deputies were dispatched to 3530 Green Crest and discovered the skeletal remains of a small child which appeared consistent with the information provided in the 911 call. Authorities found three male siblings alive, the 15-year-old, a 10-year-old, and a 7-year-old.

The children appeared malnourished and showed signs of physical injury. All three children were transported to the hospital to be assessed and treated for their injuries.

Horrific and Tragic

While giving an update to the press about the investigation, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that what they found was, " a very horrific situation, very tragic."



Sheriff Ed Gonzalez further stated, "I've been in this business a long time, and I've never heard of a scenario like this. It really caught me by surprise."

Possible Homicide

The Harris County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit, Child Abuse Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and are conducting a possible homicide investigation. The mother of the children and her boyfriend were located, interviewed, and released by Homicide Investigators.


 


The manner and cause of death will be determined by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
