Video: The Truth about a Recall of Sushi in Texas
Sushi is being taken off of the menu at Kroger grocery stores in Texas after Yummi Sushi voluntarily recalled packages of sushi following a salmonella outbreak relating to cucumbers.
The outbreak of salmonella has affected almost 70 people in 19 states. There haven't been any deaths due to the outbreak, and at this time there have not been any illnesses reported due to the sushi products.
If you were to be stricken with a case of salmonella you can expect to experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Symptoms can elevate to arterial infections, arthritis, and endocarditis, and the infections could be fatal if they are serious enough.
You will usually know within 12 to 72 hours of eating something whether or not your food was contaminated with salmonella. Unfortunately, like a lot of life's lessons you can only find out the hard way.
Kroger and Yummi Sushi are not the only two companies affected by the outbreak. Kowalski's Market Garden Salad, Crazy Fresh Garden Salad, and Quick and Easy Garden Salad are just a few of the name brands that have issued recalls.
If you purchased whole fresh cucumbers on or after October 12th then it would probably be in your best interest to throw them out. Even though most people only experience the nausea symptoms there are cases, especially with the young and old, that may result in severe illnesses, hospitalization, and even death.
