Manhole Explosion Causes Chaos at Texas Tech, Early Spring Break Declared
Things got heated at Texas Tech yesterday when green flames started shooting out of the ground from a manhole cover on the streets after an explosion took place.
🔥 Campus Eruption: Initial Incident and Emergency Response 🚨
The school issued an evacuation notice to several of the buildings on the Lubbock campus on March 12 when a series of fires and power outages occurred. Texas Tech utilized their TechAlert! system to send out the notice at 7:30pm yesterday, and they continued to send updates through the system up until 9:50am today, March 13th.
📲 TechAlert! System: Communicating the Crisis 📢
The initial reports provided the instructions to evacuate and clear the area. The five reports that followed provided information explaining that the explosion had occurred at a manhole on campus, the campus was shut down, and students would begin spring break immediately. The alert also let the students know when they were allowed to return to the affected area on campus, and then finally when the power had been restored.
🎥 Viral Footage: The Shocking Visuals of the Explosion 💥
Videos of the event that have been posted to social media have gone viral due to the extreme nature of the flames shooting out of the manhole cover. In a scene that could have been taken out of a horror film a bright green flame is shooting up at least six to eight feet out of the manhole. The flame is coming out with such force that the manhole cover is getting bounced around the area. That's no small feat considering that a manhole cover can weigh upwards of 250 pounds.
🔍 Aftermath and Investigation: Limited Information, No Injuries ✅
There were no injuries reported by the local fire or police departments. The only information regarding the incident at this time is that there was a "gas odor" on campus.
