Texas Teen Diagnosed with Disease Caused by Working Out
Overdoing it at the GYM can be hazardous to your health. If you played high school sports this is probably something coach told you on more than 1 occasion. One Houston teen is finding out just what kind of harm extreme workouts can cause. It's a condition called rhabdomyolysis. It's a potentially deadly disease that can be caused by working out too hard. Now, he and his family are spreading the word about symptoms people should be on the lookout for.
Jared Schamburger got done with a 90-minute workout and felt like "everything hurt". The condition can be life-threatening as a dangerous protein that causes muscle breakdown is released into the bloodstream. This protein can cause liver failure and other complications. Jared spent 5 days in the hospital getting the symptoms under control and he's hoping that sharing his story can help raise awareness for other athletes hitting the gym this summer.
