Bill Banning Delta 9 THC Now Looming Over Texas
I don't usually post anything about politics, and that isn't because I'm worried about offending anyone. I honestly don't think I'm smart enough to have an opinion on a lot of things, so I'll just stick to trying to make you laugh. However, I thought I could provide an update on a Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's attempt to ban all THC from being sold in Texas without having to get too partisan in my article.
Basically, in 2019 there was a bill passed that allowed for the commercialization of hemp that could include the un-removable non-intoxicating Delta 9 THC. Dan Patrick claims that the retailers exploited this agricultural law to sell "life-threatening, unregulated forms of THC to the public and made them easily accessible." As far as I know the only life-threatening condition of THC is getting shot by the police for having it in your possession.
The bill is Senate Bill 3, and the low bill number lets us know that it is a top priority for Patrick. I am so grateful that we have politicians that are doing everything they can to make sure that the citizens of the great state of Texas are being kept safe from being super chill and having the munchies!
It is worth noting that as of 2024, 24 states, three territories, and Washington D.C. allow recreational marijuana use, and 13 more states allow for the use of medicinal marijuana. There are approximately 15,000 medical dispensaries in the US and they average about 6 employees. For the fiscally responsible, legalization of marijuana would get free about $3.5 billion dollars of the federal law enforcement budget.
It's good for the economy, it's non-addictive, and it is arguably healthier than alcohol consumption. While most states are making progress towards legalization of marijuana our Lt. Gov. is doing everything that he can to set us back.
