What in The World? Texas Youth Baseball Coach Dismissed After Bad Sportsmanship
Youth sports are something we've all participated in. Personally, I played soccer for a while as a young one before marching band came to take over. I remember the chaos of getting ready for games and being at the soccer fields all day sometimes.
While time-consuming, I remember the tough times when coaches were able to make me better in the game. That includes my dad, who was my soccer coach for a while too.
Unfortunately, coaches can sometimes get too much into the competition. One coach in Texas sadly forgot the true meaning of mentoring young players. That coach is Kenneth Wendt.
According to KHOU 11, Wendt was filmed bumping into the players of the opposing team that his team lost to. In the video, the opposing players are noted to say one coach was too rough on them during the after game handshake.
The coach of the opposing team, Victor Torres, was not happy with Wendt's actions, saying:
"They come in and they slap you hard on the hand. And you'll be like, 'hey, don't do that.' But an adult, you wouldn't expect it. I was upset. I was really upset."
An unnamed parent, in a comment to KHOU 11 defended Wendt, saying, “We have known the Wendt family for two years and Kenny has always been a great husband, father, and coach. He spends an extraordinary amount of time in coaching and helping kids and their families both on and off the field."
Wendt was removed as a coach, with the Harris County Constable Precinct 5 Office, whom he works for, investigating the situation.
