For those of us in Central Texas, the town that's missing is the most shocking.

That's right, Killeen didn't not make this list. I'll take a moment to let that sink in. Sure, the numbers are from 2014, but still, it's nice to see. This list is made up from a list from Home Security Shield, and it's based on reported crime rates which are publicly released each year by the F.B.I. Since a crime is a crime, the numbers reflect both violent crime as well as property crimes.

    Corsicana

The town comes in at just over 24,000 people which might be why it made the list. Just a couple of crimes with such a small population could jack up the numbers, but Corsicana made the list because there's a 1 in 17 chance you'll experience a crime here

  • 9

    Paris

Maybe people are angry having a French name. Or maybe always being the 2nd biggest Paris. Who knows, but the came in at number 9 on the list with a 1 in 17 chance of being a victim of a crime.

  • 8

    Beaumont

For those of you who are familiar with the history of Beaumont this might not come as a surprise to see the city on this list. (Beaumont Riots). The overall crime rate is 59 per 1,000 residents.

  • 7

    Houston

It's no surprise that this city made the list. There violent crime rate comes in at 10 per 1,000 people. But what's really shocking is the property violence. It's at 50 per 1,000 residents. This why they can't have nice things.

    Lubbock

My guess is that the "flatness" is what drives people to commit crime here. The rate is 61 per 1,000 residents, and like Houston, the 53.11 of that is property crime.

  • 5

    San Antonio

The violent crime rate is pretty low here at 5.11 per 1,000. It's the property crime that jacks this cities numbers. 60.69 of the 65.80 reported crimes are property related. I guess if you can't keep up with Jones', just break their stuff.

  • 4

    Edinburg

You would think that being on the Mexican/American border the violent crime rate would be higher. Maybe the mainstream media is lying about all the border violence. This city makes the list mainly, like many others, is because of the property violence. You have a 1 in 15 chance of being a victim of a crime in Edinburg.

  • 3

    Lufkin

They claim the pace of life is a little bit slower in Lufkin, so I guess people commit crimes at a slower rate as well. Fast or slow, you have a 1 in 15 chance of being a victim in Lufkin.

  • 2

    Texarkana

This one falls on Burt Reynolds. That whole Bandit stealing beer really set a bad president. The numbers show that you have a 1 in 13 chance of being a crime victim. But it's still gotta be better than it was back in 1969 when Texarkana was known as the Rat Capital of the World.

    Weslaco

Named after the W.E. Stewart Land Company. It's the hometown of one Harlon Block who was one of the Marines pictured raising the flag at Iwo Jima. It's crime rate came in the highest in the state at 1 in 12 making it the most dangerous city in Texas.
