Texas State Technical College Construction Technologies Center

In a time when more and more professions are being eliminated by AI, technical trades offer job stability. Now, central Texans looking to enter the construction industry have a place to learn the tools of the trade. Texas State Technical College in Waco celebrated the grand opening of its Construction Technologies Center Monday. A ribbon-cutting event is scheduled for Thursday, March 26.

If You Build It, They Will Come

The Construction Technologies Center is massive at 120,000 square feet. The structure houses Building Construction, Electrical Construction, HVAC, Plumbing and Pipefitting and Solar Energy programs. In the past, these programs were spread out on campus. Since they all play a role in building construction, it made sense to group them together in one place.

A Great Place to Learn

Besides providing a great place to learn, the new building also gives students a great place to take a break with student lounge areas. Faculty and staff offices, and meeting space are included in the two-floor structure. If you drive by on Interstate 35 and see a lot of dirt, the school is in the process of adding additional parking areas.

Many Students, Many Goals

On the TSTC website, students explain what they love best about their chosen careers. Zachary Miller, of Fairfield, is a second semester Plumbing and Pipefitting student. He compares plumbing to playing with Legos and the precision it requires. Ennis native Elian Garcia is in the Building Construction program. In his third semester of the program, Elian says he looks forward to working with the new roofing and stair apparatuses planned for the lab.
