Attention Walmart shoppers! As if having to show your receipt as you're walking out of the store wasn't invasive enough now in Denton, Texas, the Walmart there is making headlines with a bold new accessory for employees...body cameras. Walmart staff are now wearing the latest in loss-prevention chic, and it’s all part of a pilot program to deter theft and de-escalate customer confrontations.

Walmart representatives are saying that the cameras are mostly about recording Karen-level meltdowns and deterring unruly customers from getting physically aggressive with their employees.

The bodycams are being billed as a safety measure, but let’s not overlook the entertainment potential here. There is definitely a reality show called "Walmart Greeters and Their Unruly Beater" in the works.

Some people might believe that this is a step toward safety and accountability while others will probably wonder if the next innovation will be Walmart-branded security vests or tasers disguised as price scanners.

Not everyone is thrilled about this high-tech approach. Privacy advocates are raising eyebrows, and they are asking if shoppers should also start wearing cameras to capture employees who get rude with them just for asking where they can find the toilet paper.

I am not crazy about the idea of Walmart employees wearing bodycams since I am someone that values their privacy. I honestly don't like to show my receipt on my way out of the store, and that's primarily because I don't want some stranger knowing that I just spent $15 on hemorrhoid cream! I am not using the self-checkout because it is more convenient. I use the self-checkout because it keeps all of the embarrassing things that I spend money on out of public knowledge. Now you're telling me that there's going to be video of it? No thanks. I'll go to Target.
