Whataburger Celebrates their 68th Birthday Today
The best damn burger joint in the world opened on this day in 1950.
Maybe it was the sea air, but on this day, August 8th, 1950, Whataburger made its debut in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Harmon Dobson & Paul Burton started serving the larger than average size burgers at a perfect point. That being right across the street from a college. The price of a Whataburger burger was 0.25 cents. They made $50 the first day. They raised the price to 0.35 and the money started rolling in, allegedly.
Their partnership folded a year later with Dobson taking over, while Burton taking franchise rights to San Antonio.
Today there are more than 800 locations, and it's the thing Texans miss the most when they move away.
