UPDATE: Police say the woman who drove into the river has been hospitalized in critical condition, and that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

KWTX is reporting emergency crews pulled a woman from a car submerged in the Brazos River in Waco early Thursday morning.

Firefighters say the car was driven into the river somewhere near the Vietnam Memorial after midnight Thursday. Somehow the vehicle flipped over as it went into the water. Only the wheels could be seen sticking up out of the water.

Three good samaritans ran into the water to pull the driver from the car and begin CPR until emergency services arrived. A water rescue team searched the car but found no other passengers.
