Our Hometown Hero, Wendy Sledd born from Oklahoma, may not have been raised in Texas but she embraced her local community the moment she moved onto the Fort Hood post four years ago.

Sledd, a Public Information Officer for Copperas Cove ISD, spends all of her free time volunteering with both military groups and her community. Her dedication can actually be measured in numbers as she volunteered over 1,000 hours in the past year alone.

Sledd was one of the driving forces that brought back the Rabbit Fest Pageant, which provides money for incoming college students as well as creates a group dedicated to local community service.

"This act alone makes wherever you go your home."

Sledd has been married to her husband, Colonel Sledd for 35 years and has moved 16 times on account of being a military wife. She says while it’s tough to relocate to much, she always finds her place wherever she moves thanks to being involved with everyone around her.

“Whenever I move to a new region I immediately get involved with the local community,” said Sledd. “This act alone makes wherever you go your home.”

Sledd wanted to also made note that Copperas Cove made it easy for her to be part of the community as it embraced her the moment she started working in the area.
