The Golden Boot Awards, The Boot’s fan-voted digital awards, are back for a third year in 2016. Each of this year's eight categories features staff-selected nominees who made waves in the country music world from May 2015 through April 2016. Readers can vote for their favorites in each category as often as once per hour through 11:59PM ET on June 5. We'll announce the winners on the site the following Monday (June 6).

The six nominees for the 2016 Golden Boot Awards Album of the Year are vastly different, and each brings his or her unique style, perspective and experiences to the table.

Kacey MusgravesPageant Material is the quirkiest of the bunch, and songs such as "Biscuits" and "Dime Store Cowboy" show off her clever lyricism. But since Chris Stapleton's Traveller earned him trophies from the Grammys, CMAs and ACMs, he is certainly the one to beat in this category.

Eric Church released Mr. Misunderstood as a complete (and thrilling) surprise to fans, and songs such as "Mr. Misunderstood" and "Record Year" are just two of the standout tracks. Thomas Rhett's sophomore record, Tangled Up, meanwhile, includes songs such as "Die a Happy Man," "T-Shirt" and "Crash and Burn," which stole fans' hearts and show off his signature energetic style.

Joey + Rory's Hymns That Are Important to Us is, certainly, memorable. The strength and grace that Joey Feek mustered to sing these beautiful, life-giving hymns while battling cancer are apparent, and this is the type of album that listeners can turn to in both good times and hard ones. Finally, Carrie Underwood's Storyteller gave the superstar her sixth No. 1 album -- and it also made history: She's the only artist in the 51-year history of Billboard‘s Top Country Albums chart to have all of her first six albums debut at the very top.
