Over 300 Beekeepers are headed to Belton, Texas this week for the 2016 Texas Beekeepers convention. It's a group who has been meeting officially since the 1880's and is made up of some 3000 members in 39 local groups.

This 3 day convention highlights many aspects of beekeeping with interesting workshops showing beekeepers how to make the most of the resources around them.

It's the local beekeepers who are on the front lines to revive the population of honeybees in the U.S. Over the last decade, beekeepers have been trying to combat Colony Collapse Disorder brought on by pesticides and other contaminants in the air. It's the hobby beekeepers who are helping reverse the decline in the number of honey bees in Texas.

Many local beekeepers begin the process in part to take advantage of a state tax exemption, and to be able to get access to fresh honey which they can sell locally.
