As Bell County’s Homeless Population Rises, Here Are A Few Ways To Help Make Donations
A recent story from the Temple Daily Telegram reports the number of homeless residents in Bell County is up to 327 after a recent point-in-time homeless survey conducted in January.
Statistics reported by the Telegram show the homeless population in the state of Texas to be around 23,000 people. This means donations are needed badly at places like Goodwill of Central Texas, The Salvation Army, and Clothing Pick Up Texas.
One of the most alarming pieces of data in the Telegram story is the largest school districts in the area numbered the amount of homeless children attending class in Killeen, Temple, or Belton to be 1,310 students. 227 of them are classified as 'unaccompanied".
With this in mind, here is some information to make donating clothing to area shelters a little easier.
Charity Clothing Pick-Up looks after about 20 drop boxes across Killeen. To find one, head over to www.clothingpickupTexas.com. The organization requests items be put inside 13 gallon trash bags, and that no "breakable" items be donated. Once you've donated, you can dial 1-800-627-6051 to get a receipt of your donation items for your records.
In Copperas Cove, donations for the area homeless are always welcomed at Cove House Emergency Shelter.
