
Lawsuit Alleges Avride Bot Caused Cyclist’s Injury In Austin, Texas

Avride made their way to city of Austin, Texas in the year of 2024. The robots were tasked with delivering food to people in the area. When the robots were first brought to the city, there was much excitement.

As told to KXAN in a comment by Yulia Shveyko, the robots themselves had certain things that made them safe around the area:
“They can detect other objects, pedestrians, bicycles, cars, assess their speeds, distances to them, and plan their route accordingly...“Robots are technically not pedestrians. So they have to give right away to all other kinds of traffic they meet other these are pedestrians, bicycles, motorbikes or cars.”

But, a recent legal case against the company has raised questions about the safety of the robots.
Details Of The Case In Austin
As reported by KXAN, the unnamed cyclist was hurt in an accident involving an Avride delivery robot. The moment in question happened at Berkman Drive on September 10th, 2024. According to the legal document provided to the news organization:
“At that time, a delivery robot owned by [Avride] began crossing the intersection … resulting in a collision between the Plaintiff and the robot of the Defendant...As a result of the collision, Plaintiff sustained serious, personal injuries.”
At the time of writing, Avride hasn't responded to the suit. As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
