There is a great deal of trust that our society places into the educators of our children. Not only are we relying on them to shape the minds of our future generations, but we also believe that those teachers follow a higher moral compass.

Anytime that a teacher breaks that trust it can be devastating not only to the students and their parents but to the entire community as well. The citizens of the Bartlett Independent School District have now had two incidences of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior from teachers towards their students.

In August of 2024, the school district was made aware of an "inappropriate relationship" between a teacher and a student. The teacher was immediately placed on administrative leave, and in January of this year that teacher was arrested for sexual assault of a child.

On February 7th, the community was told that another teacher has been placed on administrative leave with the Bartlett ISD for having an "inappropriate relationship with a student. The school district was made aware of the allegations on the 27th of January and the placed the teacher on administrative leave the next day. They also called the police department and Child Protective Services to inform them of the allegations as well.

Last night the school had a town hall meeting to discuss the situation with parents, and to let the parents know what steps the school district would be taking to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students moving forward.

I would like to note that I do not approve of the term "inappropriate relationship" in these situations. If there is any sexual contact from the teachers towards the students, then that is either rape or sexual assault.

The media was asked to leave the school grounds during the town hall.
