Chicken-fried steak is one of my favorite foods. In Central Texas, it's usually pretty easy to find, but not everyone understands how to make this dish properly. You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to make battered and fried steak, but you would be wrong!

According to Taste Atlas, 3 out of the top 12 restaurants serving the best chicken-fried steak in the entire world are in Austin, Texas. The foodie website compiled a list of the 15 best restaurants in the world for eating chicken fried steak, and it's no surprise that the top 12 are all in the Lone Star State.

Chicken-Fried Steak Started in Texas

It just makes sense that you're going to find the best fried steak dish in Texas. After all, that's where it was created originally. According to Britannica, chicken-fried steak is commonly thought to be the product of German and Austrian immigrants in Texas who adapted the dish from wiener schnitzel, which is similar. I do love some good wiener schnitzel too, but nothing beats a great chicken-fried steak!
