Blood centers need every blood type to meet patient demand. Transfusions are based on blood type, so every blood type is needed. Type O-negative is always in high demand because it is a universal donor. All blood types can take O-negative blood, but those (like me) who have O-negative blood can only receive O-negative blood. A single whole blood donation can help save up to three lives, and it only takes about 15 minutes to donate.

The Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple Trauma Center is always in need of blood donations. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center which means there is a huge need for blood. According to Baylor’s website, The Baylor Scott & White Blood Center is the only hospital-based blood donation center in the region, which allows for better access to an immediate blood supply in traumatic or crisis situations.

Blood is Always Needed

Just because many businesses shut down and people stay home due to bad weather conditions does not mean hospitals see a drop in the need for blood. Cancer patients undergoing treatment need blood; accident victims need blood, etc. Blood also has a short shelf life, so new blood is always needed. Any drop in donations is dangerous.
