Central Texas Lakes Hit 100% Capacity Ahead of Summer Heat
Several waves of heavy rainfall have completely altered the water outlook for Central Texas, pushing major regional reservoirs to maximum capacity. This is great news for those who love to be on the water in the summer! Be sure to check out the photo gallery below from the Dallas Boat Show, showcasing the hottest boats on the water this summer!
What A Difference A Few Storms Make
As recently as a few months ago, the threat of severe water shortages hung over Bell and McLennan counties. In March, the Brazos River Authority enacted a Stage 1 Drought Watch covering nine of its eleven managed reservoirs, including Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Thanks to the recent deluge, water management officials officially rescinded the drought advisory with Belton Lake, Stillhouse Hollow Lake and Lake Waco.
Collaborative Regional Oversight
When drought protocols are activated, the notification process occurs uniformly across regional municipal boundaries. According to KCEN, the managing authority typically contacts all connected communities simultaneously to trigger standardized conservation rules. While individual cities retain the legal power to implement temporary water conservation mandates during hyper-local infrastructure emergencies, such as a catastrophic water main breach, broad, long-term conservation mandates are fundamentally tied to the health of the entire regional water system.
A Bright Summer Prognosis
The rainstorms have brought widespread optimism for a summer completely free of forced water conservation schedules. Nearby cities are also reporting plenty of water. Woodway officials say that no mandatory water limits are currently on the horizon. Belton is reporting no restrictions as well.
