
Copperas Cove Couple Allegedly Abandoned 12-Year-Old Child
A woman and her boyfriend, located in Copperas Cove, Texas are being charged for a crime involving a young 12 year old boy. What led to the arrest? Here's what is known at time of writing.
Details Of The Case In Copperas Cove
As reported by KWTX, police were contacted about about a situation at an apartment complex located in Copperas Cove at 5:20 PM on the date of October 17th, 2025. When police made their way to the area, they came into contact with the unidentified, at the time of writing, 12 year old. The young boy stated that his mother and her partner left the apartment, moving out while the child was in school.

The boy found discovered the apartment missing everything after he got home from education. A person who lived near the apartment also told law enforcement that the couple had made a habit of not allowing the child back into the unit.

So, with many questions, police contacted the mother and boyfriend wanting to hear their side of the story.
What Did The Mother And Boyfriend Say When Contacted?
Erica Renee Sanders, the mother of the child, and Keven Dwayne Adams, the boyfriend told police that. Adams said to police that Sanders was not leaving the child behind, and the Sanders was moving into a home with him, with the 12 year being forbidden from entering the his home.
They both said the brother of Sanders was supposed to get the child after school was dismissed. However, Sanders purportedly could not provide a time when the brother was set to get the young child, or even any way to reach out to the brother to confirm.
Child Protective Services was alerted, and law enforcement also was able to make contact with Sanders brother. The brother confirmed he was unaware that he was to get the child after school was over, and CPS told officers that the couple didn't cooperate when they were trying to get an address.
Eventually, when law enforcement found Adams home via water utility records, Adams reportedly said to the officers that he wouldn't allow the child into his home, even if Sanders was in the living space.
Police charged the couple with abandoning and endangering a child without intent to return. As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
