
Funeral Plans Announced For Fallen Copperas Cove Officer
Funeral arrangements have been made for slain Copperas Cove Police Officer Elijah Garretson. Officer Garretson was shot and killed in the line of duty on Saturday January 10th, 2025.
At this time, not a lot of details about the confrontation between officers and the suspect are know, but the shooting took place near the intersection of Great Hills Drive and Lost Trail.
Following the shooting, officers tracked the suspect to a different location and began negotiation attempts. However, according to reports, the suspect died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. So far, the suspect has not officially been named and the incident is under investigation of the Texas Rangers.
Officer Garretson Will Be Laid to Rest This Weekend With Full Honors
Officer Elijah Garretson was more than just an officer that served his community, he was also a soldier that served his country. According to his obituary, Garretson served in the US Army for 7 years at Ft. Hood, reaching the rank of sergeant. After 7 years in the Army, Officer Garretson joined the Copperas Cove Police Department.
He will be laid to rest with Full Police Honors on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Cadence Bank Center in Belton. The service will start at 10 am.
If you want to pay your respects to Officer Garretson but can't attend the funeral, his cruiser is parked in front of the Copperas Cove Police Department.
Law enforcement groups from all across the state of Texas and nation have been showing support for the loss of Officer Garretson.
