Dating, Love, and Corona-19
Some singles are struggling to find their way in the "new normal" dating scene of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a survey from EverydayCarry, 57% of Texans would not date another person from a high-risk COVID-19 area. Looking, at you McLennan County.
After being in a long term relationship for 7 years, I was definitely a little nervous about hopping back into the dating scene, especially with everything going on. How do you go on dates with so many entertainment venues closed? Plus all the great local restaurants are majorly scaled back, making dinner plans difficult.
The survey also asked singles if they were willing to go the distance for a date. They found the average single Texan is willing to spend 2.4 hours travelling to a date, and men are even more keen, willing to spend 2.7 hours getting there. 1 in 4 of us would actually travel interstate for a date. Of course, living in Texas many of us already commute for work, so there's not much of a difference when it comes to dating.
63% of men would be willing to have the first date at their date's home compared to only 26% of women. Funny that this fact is mentioned in the survey, because the first date I went on during the pandemic actually took place at my date's home. I guess I'm in that 26% of women.
Remarkably nearly half of singles (47%) would actually prefer their first date to take place on a video call, rather than in person. Better safe than sorry I guess. Not only are you staying safe from COVID-19, but it's also much easier to end things if the vibes aren't right.
I wonder how people courted during previous pandemics? Thank goodness we have technology to keep us connected these days. Have you dated during the pandemic? Did you do anything differently than what you usually would have?
