Big Construction Projects Are Now Finished in Downtown Temple
Four years of construction has finally come to a close in Downtown Temple. City spokesperson Nohely Mackowiak tells KWTX that the city’s historic Hawn Hotel and Sears building are now apartments. The historic Arcadia Theatre is reopening as an event space.
The People’s Downtown
City spokesperson Nohely Mackowiak says downtown Temple is the people’s downtown. Speaking with KWTX, Mackowiak said, "We want folks to come out here to enjoy the businesses, to go out to eat down here and now that’s it’s so beautiful it’s just a welcoming place for them to come out and really enjoy it.”
A Completion of the Construction Celebration is Set for Saturday in Downtown Temple
The City of Temple will hold a celebration of sorts this Saturday to mark the official end of construction. Local businesses who have had access to their stores blocked by the construction for the past 4 years are excited at the prospect of seeing more customers in their stores. The ribbon cutting will start at 6 pm Saturday Nov. 8 and a block party will start right after and go until 8:30.
The Hawn Plaza Project
Construction on The Hawn Plaza Project began in 2021. Hawn West opened in 2024 with residential and commercial spaces. Apartments list anywhere from $995 to $1,825. The Arcadia Theater has an impressive history. It was built in 1928, hosting film legends like Roy Rogers and Robert Mitchum. The theater will now be used as an events venue.
