Elgin, Texas is a normally quiet community about 25 miles east of Austin that is known for its humble beginnings as a depot town much like many other communities in Central Texas. The population is nearly 10,000, but for many it remains the same small town they have lived their entire lives and raised their families who enjoy the simpler pace than the major urban area that Austin has grown to become.

According to this Elgin, Texas press releases, the Elgin Police Department was conducting a welfare check on an elderly married couple when they discovered both of their dead bodies inside their home near Elgin Memorial Park just north of Main Street on East 11th Street around 6:30 this morning.

According to the press release, investigators determined the deaths to be an act of domestic violence, and since they believe it to be a murder-suicide tragedy, it appears there is no additional danger to the community. However, it does not make the passing of two elderly residents any less troubling for the neighborhood and community.

The press release also shared that there had never been an incident involving the couple in the past, no calls to the residence were ever made prior, and yet sadly we now have a deceased 82 year old Charles L. Cunningham and his wife, 73 year old Sirley M. Cunningham.
