Today's the day to exercise your right that others worldwide strive for.

Yes, this Election Day doesn't have the same bite as most.  There's no big personalities running for national office, but voting is important no matter the subject because it's what makes us the most basic right we have in a free nation.

 

This day there are several constitutional matters, regional bond elections, and some school and city positions on ballots throughout the area.

Also this is the first election since the Voter I.D. law was upheld.  So we'll see how that plays out.

Here's a few highlights of what's on area ballots...

PROP 1- AN EXEMPTION FROM AD VALOREM TAXATION OF ALL OR PART OF THE MARKET VALUE OF THE RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD OF THE SURVIVING SPOUSE OF A MEMBER OF THE ARMED SERVICES OF THE UNITED STATES WHO IS KILLED IN ACTION.

PROP 4-AN EXEMPTION FROM AD VALOREM TAXATION OF PART OF THE MARKET VALUE OF THE RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD OF A PARTIALLY DISABLED VETERAN OR THE SURVIVING SPOUSE OF A PARTIALLY DISABLED VETERAN IF THE RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD WAS DONATED TO THE DISABLED VETERAN BY A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION.

BONDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $17,900,000 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, RENOVATION, ACQUISITION AND EQUIPMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND THE LEVYING OF THE TAX IN PAYMENT THEREOF.
