Police in Merrimack, New Hampshire want famous groundhog Punxsutawney Phil locked up for failing to warn the public about how severe the remaining six weeks of winter would be.

The Merrimack Police Department made the humorous announcement on their Facebook page Tuesday. The area is still covered in deep snow after Winter Storm Marcus iced over much of New England, and Merrimack Police are upset that Phil is warm and cozy while everyone else is suffering.

"We have received several complaints from the public that this little varmint is held up in a hole, warm and toasty", the Facebook post reads. "He told several people that Winter would last 6 more weeks, however he failed to disclose that it would consist of mountains of snow! If you see him, do not approach him as he is armed and dangerous. Call Merrimack Police, we will certainly take him into custody!"

Phil’s handlers have not yet responded to these allegations, but seeing as the groundhog isn’t a trained meteorologist, we doubt the case would hold up in court.
