It's that time again! It's the time of year that we make false promises to ourselves about how we are going to implement a bunch of changes in our behaviors in an effort to be a better person! Unfortunately, most of us are going to make a bunch of promises to ourselves that we just won't keep.

Here are five New Year's resolutions that most of us will make on January 1st, but a lot of them will often end up as distant memories.

Hit the Gym

More gym memberships are started in January than any other time of year. You sign up for $70 membership, buy $100 worth of gym clothes, and you make to the two out of the five days you had planned on it the first week. You end up missing every day the 2nd week of February, and you only end up keeping the membership open until May out of the hope you'll end up going back. You never do.

Eat Healthier

You've probably been shoving fast food and ultra processed foods into you face all year long. Now, you have decided to clean up your act and only put quality foods into your body from this point on. You'll be able to do it too, right up until the first day you are running behind. At that point you'll be driving by a McDonalds and decide that just this once won't ruin your diet. Then that time turns into the next time. The next thing you know you are ordering out of the drive-thru for every meal by the time it's January 7th.

Every year you make a promise to yourself that you're going to make a budget and follow it! Then you log into amazon to buy some paper towels, and the next thing you know there's a new living room suite being delivered. Your monthly budget just got blown away in about three minutes.

Quit a Bad Habit

Maybe you smoke too much, drink too much, or eat too much red meat. This probably won't be the first year that you plan on quitting those bad habits. Unfortunately, old habits die hard even if they are what are killing us.

Learn Something New

They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but I've definitely had more success teaching my dog Lucky how to roll over at 9 years old than I have at trying to learn how to hit a golf ball properly. You can go into learning a new hobby, language, or life skill full of vigor at the beginning of the new year, but if you're anything like me the only thing you need to learn is to rent the equipment instead of buying it when starting something new!

Resolutions are hard to stick to, but don't feel bad if you fail again. You are not alone. In fact, my only resolution this year was to not be too hard on myself. I already feel like I'm doing a great job of it this year.
