If you are tired of making and then breaking New Year’s resolutions, try these suggestions!

Make an Achievable Resolution

We are all guilty of it. We resolve to lose 50 pounds, stop smoking, stop drinking, as our plan for the new year and by January 10th, we have broken the resolution. It doesn’t mean we are hopeless, but it does mean we need to re-examine what we “want” to do and what we “can” do.

Work Out (for A Different Reason)

If you resolve to lose weight by working out, you may find that you are discouraged if the weight does not immediately disappear. If you want to start working out, do it for the way it will make you feel, rather than a written in stone goal. The bonus is that you will eventually get in shape, but you won’t be dwelling on it every day.

Unplug

Social media can drain your brain and waste your time. Social media is a time suck, so pledge to break away in 2026. I’m not talking about going cold turkey. Designate one day a week as a social media free day. It will do wonders for your mood. If you find you are spending entirely too much time online, remove the social media apps from your phone.

Pick a Room...Any Room

Make spring cleaning a part of your New Year’s resolution...but one room at a time. I am guilty of putting off housework because I view it as an all or nothing task...but if we take one room at a time, it accomplishes the goal of having a clean house.

Make That Call

Yes, you can text...but actually talking to someone is so much better. I think we all have someone we think about but never get around to calling. Maybe you have an aunt who lives alone...or a grandparent in another city. Call them! I promise you, it will make their day knowing someone's thought enough to call them.

Clean Out That Car

My car gets so dusty that I have to wipe off the screen to see which radio station I am listening to. Just cleaning your car can make you feel better...more organized. Try it!

Clean Out the Closet

I do not do this one as much as I should, but it does make me feel accomplished when I finally do it. Go through your clothes and give away the items you have not worn in a year. Do you have 10 white shirts? Do you wear all of them? If not, add several to your giveaway bag.
