Ahoy Matey! Galveston, Texas Woman Steals 52-Foot Yacht For a Pleasure Cruise
Stealing a skateboard or a bike is one thing. Car thefts? Those happen every day. Stealing a yacht is something on a different scale altogether.
Maybe the Texas woman who decided to exercise her sea legs on a nautical joyride was only planning to take a 3-hour tour...a 3-hour tour! (You probably have a few grey hairs if you get that reference.) At least she didn't cause a shipwreck.
Yacht Rock Responsible?
Maybe it was the smooth sounds of Steely Dan that planted the seed, or maybe listening to 'Sailing' by Christopher Cross on repeat that finally did it. Maybe a long weekend of binging Gilligan's Island reruns brought on this caper. Whatever triggered the thought, it was not the best idea for Renee Waguespack, who decided to 'borrow' a yacht for a quick trip around Galveston Bay.
Pirates of the Caribbean Galveston Bay
Click2Houston.com reports that according to Galveston police, Waguespack boarded the Jefferson Monticello 'Loyalty' and decided she'd take it for a test ride. Her biggest problem? She never asked for permission to do so.
Call In The Guard
Galveston police called in the United States Coast Guard and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office to help in the search. The sheriff's office located the yacht, and found Waguespack on board. NBC News reports that she left a note behind saying she would meet people at the Kemah Boardwalk (where the fun never stops!).
She was arrested, charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and taken to the Galveston County Jail.
Drugs are Bad Mmkay
According to the police affidavit, about 4 grams of drugs were found in her possession that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Waguespack was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. I'm betting that she doesn't get that captain's job she applied for anytime soon. Maybe she should send Below Deck an audition tape!
