It was announced last September that 'Harry Potter' franchise author J.K. Rowling is working with Warner Bros. on a spinoff titled 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,' and now comes word that the studio will follow in the footsteps of the 'Hobbit' franchise by making the exciting new project into an even more exciting new trilogy, milking every bit of of this magic for what its worth.

In a recent profile in the New York Times, Warner Bros. Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara revealed that the forthcoming project won't just be a one-off film -- it will be a trilogy of films. Tsujihara wouldn't say much about the upcoming trilogy, but did offer, "The hope is that we’re going to build a film franchise." Well, obviously.

'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is based on the textbook used at Hogwarts in the 'Harry Potter' films, which Rowling published as a 54-page companion book in 2001 between the fourth and fifth 'Potter' books.

The new films won't be prequels or sequels to the 'Harry Potter' franchise, but "an extension of the wizarding world," and will take place in New York about 70 years before the events in the 'Potter' story, following magizoologist Newt Scamander.
