A man was arrested after he tried to get on a Sherman ISD school bus filled with children while carrying a hatchet Wednesday afternoon.

Can you imagine being at home thinking your child is safe and sound on the bus and then receiving a text saying there was an incident on the bus? Then finding out a hatchet-wielding weirdo was the reason your kids are not arriving on time? Yikes! Well, Braylee McCoy with KXII and our partners at News 10 say parents soon started showing up at South Gribble street near downtown Sherman, Texas wondering why their kids couldn't get off the bus.

The school's superintendent Tyson Bennett told the media that police had identified the man who tried to board the bus as 59-year-old Michael Richardson. He got up to the top step of the bus with his hatchet before the driver told him to exit. The bus driver then informed dispatch of the issue, and they called 9-1-1 to report the incident.

Richardson was arrested for criminal trespass and was taken to Grayson County Jail. Police did acknowledge that the man did not threaten anyone or attempt to assault anyone, but that his entry on to the school bus without consent was cause for arrest.
