There's a change coming to your wallet! The Texas Department of Public Safety is issuing a newly redesigned Texas driver's license, identification card, and license to carry card.

According to the DPS website, all three cards will be made of polycarbonate material, making tampering harder to come by and harder to reproduce. A laser engraving will also be added as an extra layer to prevent forgeries.

The communication impediment identifier will be relocated to the front of the card for those that may have a preexisting health condition that may impact the way they communicate. A disabled veteran identifier will also be added, along with the American flag and branch of service the person served in.

The current organ donor and veteran identifiers will remain the same.

The cards will still be REAL ID compliant with a gold star located in the top right corner. Starting Oct. 1, 2020, you'll need a valid passport, U.S. military ID or a REAL ID-compliant driver's license to travel on commercial airlines or enter federal facilities.

Driver's licences for those under 21 will still be arranged vertically, as opposed to horizontally for those over 21.

Anyone still holding the older cards will still have their cards valid through the current expiration date.

You can find more details regarding the new look through the DPS website.
