Dick Move
According to ABC 13, Anthony Ray Gray dialed 911 to report that his Jeep Cherokee had been stolen from a gas station and that his son was in the car. Surveillance video shows that just before 5am on September 8, at a C-Store in Houston, Gray got out of his Jeep, leaving his vehicle running, and went inside the store.
The video shows a red Kia pull up next to his Jeep. Two men exit the Kia and get into the Jeep and drive off. That's when Gray dialed 911 and told police his Jeep was stolen with his baby still in the car.
Amber Alert on Standby
Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies began the search for the missing child right away with an Amber Alert on standby. Deputies were able to find the missing Jeep at 7am about three miles from the gas station it was taken from. No child was found in the Jeep.
One of Gray's relatives saw the report on the news and called the police to report that the child was at his grandmothers the entire time. The grandmother lives about a mile from the gas station where the Jeep was stolen.
Gray Arrested
Gray would admit to police that he lied about his baby being in the Jeep in order to get the police to find his missing vehicle quicker. Gray has been charged with filing a false report which in Texas is a Class B Misdemeanor and punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a fine up to $2,000.
